Our Proficiencies.

Based on a core set of values we apply best practices to design, build and optimise a sustainable website that reduces environmental impact, works for your business, end user and the planet. These practices create a faster processing of your webpages, and go hand in hand with good usability and SEO.

Low Carbon Website Design

Sustainable web design

The internet is one of the world’s largest polluters, responsible for roughly 2% of global carbon emissions. Data centres that store, process and deliver information to users are usually part of an enormous facility requiring a huge amount of energy.

Sustainable web design reduces the energy consumed when a user visits the website by employing techniques that require less processing power. We achieve this by hosting the website in a data centre powered entirely by renewable energy, and secondly – by designing and developing websites to use as little energy as possible when viewed.

Sustainable web design also means doubling down on user experience, focusing on what you need rather than simply filling a page with unnecessary content, images and video – this creates faster websites that support reduced bounce rates and increased conversions.

Low Carbon Website Design

Website accessibility and usability

Good navigation structures make it easier for customers to find the content they’re looking for with fewer wasted clicks. Layouts and design should be intuitive, clear and logical. When creating content for your website  less is often more. Prioritise what’s most important and keep content into small bite-sized chunks.

Using meaningful page titles, descriptions and tags will make it easier for people with vision impairments to use your website, and will help search engines understand what the site is about.

Google now includes Accessibility in their Lighthouse score, and the two fields will continue to overlap as the importance of web accessibility increases. Neon Kites can help you design and develop websites so that they are easy for all to use.

Website performance optimisation

In 2023, it’s no longer acceptable for a website to be slow. Google has deemed this so important that it’s now a crucial consideration in search rankings. So not only will users be leaving your site before they even begin, but if it’s poorly optimised for search engines like Google, no one may ever be able to find it.

At Neon Kites, we don’t just add a plugin to mask over the problem of poor website performance – we approach it from the ground up, starting with discovery, moving through design and ending in a hosted environment that maximises performance.

We consciously design and develop websites to deliver the smallest carbon footprint whilst providing a hyper fast user experience.
